Over time, the bone fuses with the implant through a process called osseointegration, creating a strong, stable foundation. An abutment (connector) is then placed on the implant, and a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture is attached to the abutment, restoring your smile and chewing function.
Most adults with good general and oral health, adequate jawbone density, and healthy gums are candidates for dental implants. If you have insufficient bone, we offer bone grafting and sinus lift procedures to build a solid foundation. You may experience some mild discomfort, swelling, or bruising for a few days after surgery, which is normal and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and cold compresses. Our team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
With proper oral hygiene, regular dental checkups, and good lifestyle habits, dental implants can last 20 years, 30 years, or even a lifetime. The restoration (crown, bridge, or denture) may need replacement or adjustment after 10 to 15 years due to normal wear and tear, but the implant itself is designed to be a permanent solution. Their longevity is one of the primary reasons implants are considered the gold standard for tooth replacement.
The total timeline depends on your specific case. The surgical placement takes about 1 to 2 hours per implant. The osseointegration (healing) phase typically takes 3 to 6 months, during which the bone fuses with the implant. After healing, the abutment and final restoration are placed, which may take an additional 2 to 4 weeks. For All-on-4 / All-on-6 cases, temporary teeth are often placed on the same day, so you leave with a functional smile immediately.
