Dental Surgeon
Dr. (Prof.) S.S. Sidhu is a distinguished dental surgeon, academician, and researcher with over five decades of experience in clinical dentistry and dental education. He served as Professor & Head of the Department of Dental Surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi, and was instrumental in establishing and developing the Dental Department at AIIMS from its inception in 1960 into a centre for advanced dental education, clinical care, and research.
He has held several prestigious positions, including Honorary Dental Advisor to the Government of India, Central Government Nominee to the Dental Council of India, and Honorary Dental Surgeon to the President of India. He later served as Director-Principal of Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Dental Sciences & Research, Amritsar, and as Dean, College of Dental Surgery, Dharan, Nepal.
Dr. Sidhu has made significant contributions to clinical and applied dental research, particularly in tooth replantation, maxillofacial prosthetics, cleft palate orthodontics, implant dentistry, and geriatric dentistry. He has served on numerous research committees, university boards, professional organizations, and editorial boards, and has represented India at national and international academic forums.
A recipient of several prestigious national and international honours, including the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award, Dr. Sidhu has authored over 160 scientific publications. His clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of complex orofacial conditions, maxillofacial surgery, implant placement, and comprehensive dental care for geriatric patients, including periodontal treatment and replacement of missing teeth with partial and complete dentures.
